DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Commerce came into existence in 1976. B.Com course was started in the self financing stream in the year 1984-85.  PG course in Commerce was introduced in the self-financing structure in 2001 which was an added attraction to the already existing course at the U G level. To create more employability The Department started B.Com vocational course in Advertising & Salesmanship sponsored by UGC from 1999 to 2007. The Department has been upgraded into a research department in 2012 with the starting of M.Phil & Ph.d course in Commerce. UGC sponsored Career Oriented Programme at the First Degree level  Add on Certificate Course in Women Entrepreneurship by was started in 2013.

 

 In B.Com (General ) there are 420 students in the Aided Stream  and 630  students in Self-financing stream. There are 12 Full time M.Phil students, 3 Ph.D Full time  students and 13 Part-time PhD students.

 

Our College has signed Memorandum of Understanding with Institute of Cost Accountants of India and Institute of Company Secretaries of India for conducting Foundation and Intermediate exams. Our College has signed Memorandum of Understanding with Andhra Chamber of Commerce for conducting seminars, conferences and to help in placements for our students.  In collaboration with Arthavidya nearly 40 students have  completed Business Accounting Process Executive Programme which help in getting good placement for our students.

                VAISH COMFEST 2015-16 MINDSPARK – the annual commerce fest was inaugurated by CS.C.RAMASUBRAMANIAM, COUNCIL MEMBER, ICSI. He spoke about women’s empowerment. Mrs.CHITHRA ANANTHARAMAN, DEPUTY DIRECTOR, SIRC, ICSI, spoke about the career opportunities available in various sectors including company secretary ship .Students from 30 colleges participated in events such as adzap, channel surfing, business connexions, logo designing, block & tackle, product packaging and mock interview. Dr.V.GVIJAY LAKSHMI, Principal, Chellammal women’s college, delivered the valedictory addresses and distributed the prizes. The overall trophy was won by SIVET college.

CMA FOUNDATION EXAM

             Seven students R.Anjali, A.Akshaya and M.Valarmathi of II B.Com (Day), Hemapriyadharshini.V, S.Bhavani and T.Geetha of II B.Com ( A& F), S.Akshaya, C.Srinidhi and Suganya.D of II B.Com ( Hons) and U.Priyadharshini of BCA passed CMA Foundation exam in June 2015.

Twenty nine students  passed the Foundation Exam in December 2015
