BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

               The Department of Chemistry was started in the year 1978 with the student’s strength of 50.The department has been successful since 1978 under the able leadership and guidance of  our academicians like Tmt. Nirmala Tharoor, Tmt.Parvathy Gopalan,Tmt.K.Chellam,Tmt.K.Mallika and Tmt.D.K,.Gowri who is heading the department from 2015.The Vision of our department is to promote the  value based education by training the students  in various fields of chemistry  to carry out the research related to problems in everyday life.

Ø  Diploma in Medical Lab Technician course.Department of Chemistry has signed MOU with the Stannis Institute , Porur for the benefit of students of Chemistry and Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnology. Stannis Institute train our students and place them in various Hospitals like Apollo, Chettinad, Global etc as Lab Technicians .Various activities were conducted under DBT scheme

Ø  Workshop on Video recording was conducted for the I year students of B.SC Chemistry, Physics, Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnology on 10.10.2015 by  Mrs.D.Gomathi, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Science and Humanities, SRM University, Kattankulathur, Chennai

Ø  Workshop on the recording and Interpretation of FTIR spectra was conducted for Chemistry, Physics and Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnology on 04.01.2016 by Mr.Prabhu, Manager, Genius Lab Care Instruments, Thoraipakkam, Chennai
