Department of Statistics established in the year 1984 offers undergraduate degree
course in statistics and post graduate degree course in Biostatistics in 2007. The
Department was upgraded as research department by the University of Madras from
2012. M.Phil
Statistics started in the year 2013 under Self finance Stream. The department aims at motivating and enhancing research
potential of the research scholars and faculty members by using excellent knowledge
base of eminent subject experts of the reputed institutes through orientation programmes,
Seminars and conferences regularly. It also provides hands on practical experience
in Data Analysis using sophisticated statistical software R Programming, SPSS, SPSS
AMOS and SYSTAT.

Department of statistics has celebrated National Statistics
day on 29th June 2016 at Department of Statistics on the mark of birth
anniversary of Late Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis who is called as a Father
of Indian Statistics.

September 2016 titled “d – Analytica 2k16”.

Our Statistics Association activities for the academic year 2016-17
began with an Inter-Departmental activity on 17/9/2016 with its distinguished
name “d-Analytica 2k16” followed by the Intercollegiate activity
“d-Analytica 2k17” on 08/02/2017. d-Analytica meaning d- Data, Analytica derived from the word analytical, meaning “skilled in
analysis” in statistical perspective. The name of the activity specifically
highlighted the importance of data analysis in modern
era.
The
theme of the activity “d-Analytica 2k16” is to enhance the statistical knowledge
of the students from various disciplines (other than Statistics) of S.D.N.B.
Vaishnav College. The description about the activity is highlighted as
