The Department of English has highly motivated staff who endeavor to prepare students for the future by inculcating an interest in literature and to learn the nuances of the English language  through practice of LSRW skills.  With 3 Doctorates and 2 staff pursuing Research,  the Department is gearing to establish itself as a Research Department in the near future.The Department has designed a well thought out syllabus to balance interest in literature and   develop a competency in spoken English            

Journalism, an elective subject has been introduced to hone their creative skills and also a prepare  them for a career in journalism after their post graduation

·         Making optimum use of the autonomous status in evolving a syllabi that will upgrade the knowledge of the faculty and students.

·         Introducing a paper in communications skills that will enable them to effectively communicate – the need of the hour.

·         Increasing the number of job-oriented subjects -- Translations and Journalism.

·         Creating an awareness of women’s problems with a paper on Women’s Writings, which will also inspire them to strive for higher goals.

·         Providing them with views of feminists and adopting a positive approach to the gender issues.

·         Combining theoretical knowledge with practical training.

English Literary Association & Debate Club -  2015-2016

          Inaugural Lecture on communicative English by Dr. Gopalan Ravindran, Professor & Head, Dept. of journalism and Communication,University of Madras, Chennai, on 11th August 2015.

          Inter and Intra Departmental competitions were conducted

          A guest lecture on “Attitudes of English Second Language Learners towards corrective feedback " was given by Mrs. Malathy Bakeerathan, Lecturer, University of Jaffna, Srilanka on 5th January 2016.

          One day workshop was conducted under the banner of CLF (Chennai Literary Fest) on “News Reading and Comparing”  by Prof. Abul Faiz, Founder and Director, AF School of News Reading and “Copy Editing and Publishing” by Mrs.Nalini Olivannan, Director at Chennai Centre of Training and Development on 18th February 2016.
