BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

           The Department of Computer Science was established in 1988. This is one of the only two aided colleges offering Computer Science in aided stream under University of Madras. The self-supporting UG program was started in the year 2000 and PG program in the year 2001. The department is recognized as a Research Centre from August 2012 onwards.

Vision

Ø  Producing quality graduates trained in the latest tools and technologies, to achieve academic excellence in Computer Science by imparting in-depth knowledge to the students, facilitating research activities and cater to the ever changing industrial demands and societal needs.

Mission

  

Ø  To provide quality education to the students through latest technology development in Computer science.

Ø  To provide a learning environment that helps students to enhance problem solving skills, be successful in their professional lives and to prepare students to be lifelong learners by offering a solid theoretical foundation in computing along with applied computing experiences and educating them about their professional, and ethical responsibilities.

Ø  To establish Industry Institute Interaction to make students ready for the industrial environment.

Ø  To provide exposure to students to the latest tools and technologies in the area of computer software.

Ø  Provide up-to-date curricula in the technical and scientific knowledge needed for the professional and academic goals of our students

Ø  National Conference on Applied Mathematics and Computer Science was organized on 10thFebruary 2012.

Ø  Workshop titled “Application Development” on 23/08/2012 & 24/08/2012 was organized for BSc and BCA students.

Ø  Workshop titled “Artificial Neural Networks, its Application in Image Processing with Implementation using MATLAB” on 23rd 24th and 25th of August 2012 was organized for Research Scholars and faculty members.

Ø  Workshop titled “LateX ,LinuX”  in the months of October 2012 , December 2012 and  January 2013 for B.Sc , B.C.A . The workshop was organized as joint venture between our department and IIT, Mumbai.

Ø  Workshop titled “Database Administration” on 30th January 2013 was organized for III B.Sc. Comp. Sci. and PG students.

Ø  Workshop titled “Research methodology & data analysis using SPSS/AMOS ” on 5th,6th& 7th of June 2013 was organized for Research Scholars. The resource person was professor from IIT, Kanpur.

Ø  Workshop titled “Oracle” on 26/08/2013, 5/9/2013, 6/9/2013 & 7/9/2013 was organized for III B.Sc. Comp. Sci., B.C.A and PG students. The resource person was  from TCS.

Ø  Workshop titled “LateX ,LinuX , C++ , Php and MySql”  in the months of October 2013 , December 2013,January 2014 and February 2014 for B.Sc , B.C.A . The workshop was organized as joint venture between our department and IIT, Mumbai

Self-learning components- spoken tutorial

            The Spoken Tutorial project is the initiative of the ‘Talk to a Teacher’ activity of the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (ICT), launched by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India.

 (The Spoken Tutorial project is being developed by IIT Bombay for MHRD, Government of India) Spoken tutorials for the following courses are being conducted by the department for our students every semester
